Ross and I stayed at the Excellence Playa Mujeres for 5 days in January 2010. We flew on Sun Country Airlines into Cancun, then had a private transfer provided by FunJet Vacations non-stop to the hotel. It was about 30 minutes from the airport to the hotel.
The hotel was amazing! It was beautiful, contemporary, super clean and elegant. It is adults only and all-inclusive.
We were in room 8353, Excellence Club, building 8, 3rd floor. We had a full oceanview and resort view. We looked over the Grill and Lobster House restaurant building, lobby, and out to the ocean. We absolutely loved our room location. It was close to everything, high enough for great views and quiet. As I mentioned, we were in the Excellence Club, which is an upgraded section of the resort, with room locations in buildings 7, 8 and 9. There is a private EC lounge where we did our check-in. The lounge always has a buffet offering fruits, snacks and light meals all day long. There is also always champagne and bar service available. There were comfy sofas, a TV usually tuned to the news, tables and chairs and computers to use. We could check out movies for free from the EC. We surprised ourselves by taking advantage of the EC quite often.
The room itself was lovely. It was set up in an open layout. The bathroom was semi-open to the rest of the room where the king bed, table and chairs, sofas and coffee table were. There was a separate Jacuzzi room off the living room that connected to the balcony. Outside on the balcony we had another bed and table with chairs. It rained and was cloudy for a few days, but being cooped up in our room was actually a nice treat for us! It was very nice and offered everything we needed and more. Having an EC room, we had upgraded bathroom amenities (shampoo, conditional, toothpaste, lotions, etc.) We also had a full bar with regular sized premium bottles of vodka, tequila, whiskey and wine. We could request specific types or brands at no additional charge. The refrigerator was stocked with drink mixes, water, soda and candies that were restocked daily.
We remembered from the Excellence in Punta Cana how delicious the Asian restaurant was, and we were not disappointed at Playa Mujeres. Excellente! We even went back a second night just to have their appetizers. We dined at the Italian restaurant and the Lobster House (all lobster, all the time, as much as you want!), along with ordering room service. For breakfasts and lunches, we ate at the buffet which always had a great selection. We did have lunch at the Grill one afternoon. There’s nothing like having lunch in an open air restaurant with the ocean in front of you. Great atmosphere!
There were plenty of pool chairs around the many pools. Pool butlers were always available to bring whatever you asked for. They also have pool floats available to use whenever you felt like floating the day away.
All in all, another great resort. We liked the location. It was remote and quiet. You definitely wouldn’t want to go here to be in the middle of the action. There’s not much around, but that’s the beauty of it. It was just me and my wonderful husband, enjoying each other’s company at a wonderful resort.
